Saturday 1st June 2019 was a remarkable day for Forensic Education in Nigeria. EEA Forensic organized a masterclass in Forensic science, tagged ‘The Crime scene experience’. The training took place at Halogen Academy in Ikeja.

The 50 participants that attended the training were taken through comprehensive classes in Forensic Investigation, where the different aspects of Forensics, including Toxicology, DNA, Fingerprint, Impression, psychology, odontology, pathology, glass and fire investigations were discussed.

The second class was in Crime Scene Investigations. Participants were taken through the extensive and thorough process of a crime scene investigation.

The third class was in Forensic Digital Analysis, where the basics were introduced, and participants especially enjoyed the part of the training where they learnt about encryption.

The next class was in Document Analysis, this was a skill acquiring session. Participants were introduced to the concept of document analysis and taught about what to look for in the analysis of handwriting and signature.

The final class was in the Reid’s technique of Interview and Interrogation, this was a particularly interesting session as it was interactive and relatable.

The highlight of the day was the scientific practical session. First was a huge crime scene with a Mock dead body and some fragments of skeleton and some mock weapons, hairs, fibers, footprints and other crime scene props. Participants had to work through the crime scene to put into practical what they had been taught during the session.

Participants also learnt how to dust for fingerprints, lift the fingerprint and collect reference fingerprint samples, which was exciting as participants had the chance to also dust and lift their prints and analyze the type of print.

Another highlight of the day was the practical in casting and lifting a footprint at the crime scene. Other practical’s conducted were hair analysis, participants got the chance to look at the hair follicle under the microscope, reconstruct some broken glasses for glass analysis and conducted presumptive tests for blood and semen.

It was indeed an amazing day, participants had their minds and souls catered for through the training and their bodies catered for through the selection of breakfast options (Akara and Ogi, Tapioca and Akara, Ewa agoyin and bread, Yam and Egg and Sweet potato and eggs) and lunch was Jollof rice, moi moi and chicken.

Participants acknowledge that the training was a great value for money as they received ‘Crime scene do not cross name tag’, Custom Pen, A folder, their fingerprint collection sheet and Usb flash drive which contained all the slides from the training.

There were beautiful souvenirs from EEA Forensics which participants purchased. (To purchase souvenirs, call 08137412120)
